Can fragrances be brought on the plane?
This is undoubtedly the star question for many fragrance lovers: can I bring my favorite fragrance with me on a plane? What happens if I don’t check in luggage?
The answer is yes, it is allowed to bring fragrances to the airplane cabin and carry them with you in your hand luggage. But watch out; there are a whole set of regulatory limitations that you must comply with, no matter what, if you don’t want your fragrances to be left behind.

This was already talked about last year and the removal of liquid limits in hand luggage is getting closer.
Since July 2025, some European airports have improved their security scanner technology (incorporating new 3D scanners) with the aim of increasing security and speed during controls. This could mean the elimination of the 100ml restriction for liquids in hand luggage.
At these airports, it will be possible to carry liquids (and fragrances) in containers of up to two liters.
Although some airports already have this technology, such as Madrid and Barcelona, it seems we have to wait for all the main European hubs to have it before the restriction is lifted. The 2025 liquid regulations on planes still maintain the 100 ml limit in most airports, so the current regulations must be respected.

How many ml of fragrance can be carried on a plane?
The maximum amount of liquid that can be taken on a plane in hand luggage must not exceed 100 ml per item. This limitation is part of the liquid regulations on planes (100 ml per container) that apply in most European airports. That is, we can carry more than one item in different bottles, but each of these containers must have a maximum capacity of 100 ml separately.
Another point to consider is that some airports only allow a total maximum of 1 liter of liquids in hand luggage. That is, individual containers must be a maximum of 100 ml and in total, they must not exceed 1 liter all together.
If you want to exceed that amount, keep in mind that in the checked luggage there is no limitation regarding liquids.
Another option is to purchase the products you need that exceed the maximum allowed quantity after passing through security control, within the same airport.
This regulation applies to both domestic and international flights, although it is always advisable to check the conditions of the departure airport.
Can I carry more than one fragrance?
If you are one of those aroma connoisseurs who love to have a fragrance for the day and another for the night, you should know that yes, it is allowed to carry more than one fragrance in hand luggage.
That said, keep in mind that you must continue to comply with current regulations regarding liquids: containers of no more than 100 ml and a maximum of 1 liter of liquids in total.
Fortunately, most of the formats of fragrances marketed are found between 50 ml and 100 ml, so you will surely have no problem carrying your favorite fragrance with you.
Another option, which besides saving space, can also be a much more practical alternative, is to buy fragrances at ‘travel’ size or reusable containers that you can fill with your favorite fragrance.
How should I carry the fragrances?
To take your fragrances into the airplane cabin you must place them in transparent bags with ‘zip’ closure of one standard size of 20x20cm along with the rest of the liquids you carry in your luggage: sprays, toothpaste, makeup, creams, etc.
When it is time to put your carry-on luggage through the X-ray machine, you must take out the transparent bag and place it in plain sight on a separate tray for to facilitate their inspection.
Don't worry if you don't have these bags at home: practically all airports offer transparent bags of the standard measures in the security control area.
Checklist before flying with your fragrance
Before closing your suitcase, check this:
✔ The bottle does not exceed 100 ml (if it goes in hand luggage).
✔ All liquids are inside a transparent bag of maximum 1 liter.
✔ You will take out the bag at security control.
✔ If the bottle is larger than 100 ml, it goes in checked luggage.
✔ You have well protected the fragrance to avoid bumps or leaks.
✔ If you bought it at duty free, it is sealed in its official bag.
Extra tip: always check the departure airport regulations, as they may vary depending on the country or the scanner technology installed.
