Tips and tricks on how to groom a beard at home

How to trim your beard at home. Tips and advice

The best barbers have been working with facial hair for years and they know how to trim your beard or stubble to perfection, they are able to identify what type of facial hair you have and which style best accentuates your features.

If you don't have time to go to the barbershop though, or you want to save some money, DIVAIN brings you a small guide on beard grooming and how to keep yourself looking trim at home!

Our guide to beard grooming

Discover how to fix your beard at home to show off a unique styleHere are some good tips and tricks to follow to show off a great look with a clean and attractive beard.

Wash your beard and moustache

Facial hair is like any hair if you don't wash it it will have an unattractive smell and appearance. Keep it clean with a soap or beard shampoo. You should take into account your skin type when choosing products as with sensitive skin it is normal to suffer irritation even with specialised products for facial hair care.
How often should I wash my beard? It is recommended just two to three times a week, so as not to dry out the skin. If your complexion is dry, hydrate the skin with essential oil or use beard balms. Depending on the length you grow, you may be interested in using a beard conditioner too.

Condition, hydrate and brush your beard

After washing your beard the second most important task comes in: brushing.
You should comb through facial hair, including your moustache. Give in a nice shape and style, then hydrate it with essential oil, conditioner or cream, (ideally over night).
By regularly washing, brushing and moisturising your facial hair, its appearance will improve considerably and it will have a pleasant scent and style to keep you attractive look and appearance.

Trim your beard

To trim your beard at home, you should first trim the sides. To do this comb through your beard and remove the hairs that protrude from your thick beard. If you are an amateur, it is best to forget your fancy Gillette razor for this step and carry out this process with just scissors so you trim just enough!
Once the sides are done, cut the hairs that touch your upper lip. For this, simply comb your moustache in a downward motion trimming off the excess.
If you are daring and want to shape your beard, do so trimming according to your neck line. If you trim too high the style and shape will look unnatural. One trick is to stand in profile and draw an imaginary curved line from the end of your ear to your neck. Trimming below that line is a no fail winner for all styles!

Best Beard Products

Best beard care productsFacial hair care products are essential for a perfect beard, especially if it has some length. We like to guide you towards products with natural ingredients.

Essential oils

These are wonderful for skin, hair, and facial hair. They are also cheap and easy to find in most beauty shops or supermarkets. The best are:

  • Coconut oil
  • Argan oil.
  • Peppermint essential oil - one of the best discoveries in beauty. Chinese scientists claim peppermint essential oil helps hair growth as much as Minoxidil, although there is no conclusive evidence for this yet.

Beard comb

If you want to have an enviable beard, you must have a comb or brush. Some of the best are:

  • BFWood: boar bristle beard comb.
  • Breett Grooming Kit: Includes brush, beard balm, oil, and even small scissors.
  • BEARDED BEN: boar bristle brush.
  • 7 potions beard brush: a 100% boar bristle brush that you can find on Amazon.

A good razor

Although there are countless razors on the market, the best brands are: Braun, Remington and Philips not forgetting Gillette.

Beard shampoo

There are many beard shampoos, but one of the favourites is BarberClub, which belongs to the L'Oréal Men Expert range of products. It is a 3 in 1; beard shampoo, facial cleanser and an essential oil. Plus, it has an amazing fragrance, perfect for all styles.

If you want to keep your beard impeccable remember: clean, brush and moisturise. Accompany these three actions with suitable care products and you will always look on your game!
