Eau de Toilette is one of the most used formulas in the world of perfumery, possibly after Eau de Parfum.
Its aromatic essence concentration is lower, making its fragrance lighter and more subtle. However, one should not make the mistake of thinking that Eau de Toilette is a second-rate product, since due to its characteristics, it can be very useful for specific uses. In this post on our blog, we tell you how to correctly use an Eau de Toilette and which occasions it best suits. Let's get started!
What is a Fragrance eau de toilette?
If we see that a Fragrance has an ‘Eau de Toilette’ (EDT) formula, it means it has a concentration of Fragrance essence from 8% to 15%, with 10% being the usual average concentration that these types of fragrances typically contain
When compared to the other major formula used in perfumery, the ‘Eau de Parfum’ (EDP) with 16%-18% Fragrance essence, we see that in the case of EDT it is lower, and therefore, its intensity, fixation, and duration are also more limited.
How to correctly use an eau de toilette?
Here are some tips to correctly use your Eau de Toilette and maximize its duration to the fullest:
Fix on key body areas
This is undoubtedly the top tip to fix an EDT on our skin, as there are certain strategic areas of our body because due to the presence of fat, moisture, and blood circulation, the fragrance stays fixed more easily, increasing the duration of it. These areas are the neckline, the nape, the lower back, the wrists, the inner knees and elbows, the hairline, the collarbone, and behind the ears.
Layer your Fragrance
The ideal is to apply a first layer after the shower, when our pores are open and can better absorb the scent just before getting dressed.
Once dressed, we can spray ourselves with a Fragrance cloud so that it stays gently applied on our clothes. But beware: be careful with light-colored clothes! Applying a Fragrance of any kind on light or delicate clothing (especially if done too close) can damage and/or stain it.
Reapply during the day
When we use an EDT in our daily routine, we shouldn't be afraid to reapply it throughout the day. Its formula is much lighter than that of a Fragrance, so it's unlikely that we will overdo it.
That said, remember that you already have some layers of fragrance on your skin, so reapplications should be much lighter and subtler. The ideal is to create a Fragrance cloud and go through it to reactivate the scent of our Eau de Toilette at any time of the day.
Use the bath line of the eau de toilette
Not all EDT products have bath lines, but in some cases, it is possible to find this type of subproducts.
Use soaps scented with the EDT Fragrance that we are going to apply will help fix the scent better on our skin and make it last longer.
What is an eau de toilette used for?
Although Eau de Parfum is usually a preferred option for most users due to its longer duration and higher intensity, Eau de Toilette can be very useful in some specific cases.
For example, if we want to to use a different Fragrance for morning, afternoon, or night. Being a subtle formula, its scent will fade 3-4 hours after application. After this time, we can reapply a different EDT, something that would not be possible if we had previously applied an Eau de Parfum, as both Fragrances would mix.
Eau de Toilette is also a type of Fragrance very suitable for people who are looking for light aromas, for everyday use, or for example, to go to the gym or do sports, because its composition is much fresher and lighter.
The hottest months are also an ideal time to use an Eau de Toilette, especially if we tend to sweat a lot, as this type of Fragrance will help refresh us throughout the day.
