|Silvia Gutiérrez

Permanent nail polish is ideal for keeping your nails always perfect and healthy for a long time. The only downside of this type of manicure is that it is quite difficult to remove, since improperly removing the polish can cause infections, nail loss, and even permanent damage.

However, if you follow a series of steps and minimal care, you can remove the permanent nail polish at home yourself. This way, you won't need to go to beauty salons. You will save time and money.

Next, we will tell you how to remove permanent nail polish. Take note!

Steps to remove permanent nail polish

Before starting, you will need to gather a series of materials that you can easily find at home or buy at any supermarket, beauty store, or pharmacy: pure acetone, aluminum foil, hard nail file, petroleum jelly, cotton, and moisturizing cream.

Don't forget that patience is essential when removing permanent manicure. Never do this process in a hurry.

First step: Make the polish porous

Since the polish layer is completely sealed, it is very difficult for it to dissolve with acetone as happens with traditional polishes.

Simply use a hard nail file and gently rub it until you remove the top shiny layer without applying too much force. Touch the nail to make sure the polish is porous. This will improve its absorption capacity.

Second step: Protect the cuticles and skin

As you will see later, acetone is a fundamental product for removing the polish. Therefore, it is very important to protect the cuticles and the skin around the nails so they do not get damaged.

You just need to apply a little petroleum jelly or cuticle oil on those areas, and it will act as a protective layer. You can also use orange sticks to push back the cuticle. This will also help make the nail look much nicer.

Third step: Apply the acetone

You will need pure and strong acetone to remove the polish. Soak some cotton balls in acetone and then carefully place them on the nails. Try as much as possible to avoid contact with your skin. Remember that it is not advisable to overuse acetone, as it can weaken your nails.

Fourth step: Wrap the fingers in aluminum foil

Although in the first step we improved the nail's porosity, to enhance the results use aluminum foil. Wrap it around the tips of the fingers without removing the cotton. This is essential to prevent evaporation and improve the effect.

This constant and closed contact will definitely soften the polish. Regarding time, about 15 minutes will be enough to complete this simple step. Although some polishes may require a bit more time.

Fifth step: Remove the polish

Remove the aluminum foil and the cotton. You will see how the polish has already peeled off by itself. If any residue remains, you can use another piece of cotton with acetone again. Always rub gently.

Sixth and final step: Properly moisturize the nails

Since your nails have been exposed to permanent polish and then pure acetone, it is very important to properly moisturize the nails after the process. In fact, it is very likely that your nails will be more sensitive. We recommend applying some nourishing oil to prevent them from becoming dry and damaged.

Finally, it is very important to be as careful as possible when performing each step to remove the polish. Remember that it is not advisable to breathe acetone directly and that this process should be done with time and in a well-ventilated area of your home.
