¿Which type of Fragrance lasts longer, EDP or EDT? Is it worth paying more for an Eau de Parfum? In this post, we will tell you the duration of each formula, and why Eau de Parfum seems to us the best option and investment in most cases.
Which lasts longer, eau de parfum or eau de toilette?
Before diving into data on which type of Fragrance (EDT or EDP) lasts longer, it is worth taking a moment to analyze how they are made this type of products to understand the differences in terms of fixation and intensity.
The essence of the Fragrance is the aroma of the product itself at its highest concentration. Depending on the percentage of pure essence present in proportion to the rest of the ingredients within a commercial fragrance, it is considered ‘Eau de Parfum’ or ‘Eau de Toilette’. The higher the concentration of Fragrance essence, greater intensity, longevity, and fixation.
In this way, Eau de Parfum have a concentration of between 16% and 18% of pure essence, mixed with other parts of water and alcohol. The duration of ‘eau de parfum’ Fragrances ranges between 6 and 10 hours, although often the scent of the base accord remains impregnated in the fabric for several days.
On the other hand, we have Eau de Toilette, which have a lower concentration of Fragrance essence, between 8% and 15%, and with a duration around 3-5 hours. The intensity is lower and its sensation is fresher and lighter.
But these types of concentrations are not the only ones in the world of perfumery, as at both extremes we find formulas with different proportions.
At the most intense extreme we have the Fragrance (Parfum), with a concentration of 20% to 30%, and a duration of a minimum of 12 hours, reaching up to 24 hours.
We also have a much lighter product than Eau de Toilette, called ‘Eau de Cologne’, with a Fragrance concentration between 2% and 4% and a duration of about 2 hours. This type of Fragrances, also called ‘colognes’, are known for having one of the lowest essential oil concentrations on the market.

Why is Eau de Parfum better?
The Eau de Parfum is undoubtedly the quintessential Fragrance formula, since its intensity can last for most of the day, without being as intense as the pure essence of the Fragrance.
Although its price is higher than in the case of ‘Eau de Toilette’, its duration is longer and therefore, it is not necessary to keep reapplying the product throughout the day for the scent to remain on our skin.
However, if you like to change Fragrance depending on the time of day, it is likely that using several Eau de Toilette will be a better option for you, since their duration is shorter and so is the price you will pay for each Fragrance.
